Newspaper

The paperboy comes in the morning
He throws a newspaper at wall
His aim is always perfect
I pick it up and see it
The paper is wrinkle free and crisp
The faces on it are laughing
The text is pitch black and small
The girl with the mobile phone is attractive
I like the way she smiles, Always
I keep the paper somewhere
I will come back to it
When i have time

Later
I read the small black text
It is always people saying something
Something about promises
Something about killing someone
Something about money and sports
Something about the little world i live in
The black text
It eats my time
It unsettles me
It is not good
It’s just people doing things to people
How is it news
Some human who got killed
How is it gonna make my day
Why do i need this info
I can’t understand it, always
But then I put it away
Terrible things go away
My life sees me again
And always, the girl is smiling

Raju’s Day

It is a new day in Moneypur. The sun has come up and the rooster has done his work. Raju, half sleepy, opens his eyes to take a peek around. There is so much to do this morning. But the bed is delicious in the chilly weather. He despise getting up. But he climbs out of bed nonetheless. The warmth of bed in the chilly weather is comforting, but he remembers the warmth he felt on his cheek after Bunty had slapped him last time.

He fetches water from well and starts moping the floor. The water is ice-cold. He tries moping the floor swiftly. With each movement, he tries to cover more and more floor area. But by the time he is done moping the floor, his hands feel numb.

The clock in the shop displays 6’o clock. Raju has started dusting the place. Apart from dusting, he picks up a thing, wipes it and carefully places it. At times, his mind is enchanted by the colorful round sweets and sweet biscuits. But he remembers Bunty’s rebukes and shifts his mind to some other thoughts.

Aaj mera janamdin hai. Maalik se ek biscuit mangunga. Shayad de de. Today’s my birthday. I will ask owner for a biscuit. Perhaps he will give me one.” He thinks and continues dusting.

°°°

The clock shows 7’o clock. It is time for Bunty to wakeup and open the shop. Bunty wakes up and takes a bath. After performing his daily rituals and Goddess Laxmi’s worship, he takes his seat in the shop. He takes a look around. Glancing at his uvular reflection in the glass container strikes him as a wonder. He appreciates how clean it is. But as soon as he is done, he finds Raju standing afore him.

Raju says, “maalik, aaj mera janam din hai. Ek biscuit do na. Owner, it is my birthday today. Please give me a biscuit.”

Bunty stares blankly at Raju’s face, maybe probing to find answer to the question he asked him. His first instinct, at hearing his demand of a biscuit, was to rebuke and slap him. But after he takes a look at shop again and notices its cleanliness, he stops himself. He gets up and goes inside.

Bunty stands beside bed and attempts to wake Rajni. He is beware of Rajni’s temper, but it is an important matter and his decision is of utmost importance. He pokes and shakes her. Rajni, with eyes half opened and a frivolity in voice, roars, “Ab kya chahiye tujhe! What do you want this time?”

Bunty says, “ladka biscuit mang raha hai. Kehta hai janamdin hai. The boy asks for a biscuit. Says it is his birthday.”

Rajni, visibly bothered, says, “are usko vo de de jispe chuhe ne muh maar diya that. Give him the one which was tasted by mouse.”

Familt

Hello, hi there, how are you?

My father said we are family

But ain’t it an anomaly for me

Because the one and only thing I know

Is your name and I wonder now

If this is what makes us family.
These movies of bollywood

Larger than life they stood

All lies told in them, no truth

But still I like the way they showed

Families and that too happy and gay.

But life differs from real to reel,
Not only that, but also the way we feel.
Family, a grand word and larger the mean it means,
But today the truth is obscene

You and father are said to be brother

But the two of you doesn’t even bother

To put this word to its mean

The way you two act, I’ve seen

It’s like you two are mere creature

And blood and surname is a shared feature

Between you two and between us kids

Ahead is something meaningful, so pay heed.

Talk is what makes a man,

Someone’s family and someone’s friend

Break the ice and It’s a breeze

Just initiate the talk and see time freeze.

But in-between if there’s a wall

Due to a mismatch that happened like a brawl

Then i think the answer lies in the soul

Just initiate the talk and forget it all.

But, this case is shut

In case we or you are proud

Life is short, then just remember

We are nothing but part of a crowd.
